Abstract
The paper presents the results of experimental research on the dry ice extrusion process using multi-channel dies. This die type is used to produce dry ice pellets, which are commonly used to cool food and drugs during the transportation process. In the first part, the authors reviewed the literature on the use and usefulness of dry ice pellets. The main conclusion focuses on the perceived lack of knowledge about the relationship between the geometrical parameters of the channel and the limiting force during the extrusion process, which is related to the quality of the extruded pellet. In the discussion of the results, the authors, using statistical methods, show the influence of the shape and geometrical parameters of the die channels on the value of the limit force and the final density of the pellets. The presented results in future research can be used as validation results in simulation studies focused on the dry ice extrusion process.
