Abstract
This work deals with different methods of hydroxyapatite synthesis in order characterize the properties of hydroxyapatite crystals. Hydroxyapatite is important in catalysis, in the preparation of biocompatible substances, in the application of protein chromatography, in the fertilizer industry, in water treatment processes and is part of pharmaceutical products. It is an important inorganic component of hard calcified fibers.
This work is focused on the general characteristics of hydroxyapatite, its applications and synthesis methods. Hydroxyapatite was synthesized by the precipitation method, the ultrasonic method for 90 and 120 minutes, the microwave method, and from biogenic sources, specifically from the shell of chicken eggs. A scanning transmission electron microscope with an EDX detector was used to characterize the prepared products. Microwave synthesis of hydroxyapatite was the easiest because it was not time-consuming. The prepared solutions were irradiated in a microwave oven, dried and ground into powder. An ideal Ca/P ratio of 1.67 was obtained by microwave synthesis.
