The influence of the punch velocity on the belt perforation process

Abstract


The polymer composite belt perforation process can still be improved in order to increase its effectiveness and keep up with the development of the material used for such machine parts. One of the parameter which can be adjusted is the punch velocity. In this research, the results of the experimental tests, showing the impact of punch velocity (which varies in range from 0.5 to 40 mm/s) on the perforation force value and hole quality, are presented. Based on the results, it can be observed that the perforation force increase for a faster performance of the perforation process, and the difference in the analyzed range may reach up to 25%. The goal of this research is to obtain a model for the value of the estimation of the perforation force, taking into account the variable punch velocity. Such a model will enable to properly select the drive for a punching dies.
