Abstract


The determination of material damping for a steel bar constructed of S235JR material is the topic of this article. The steel bar was moved out of its equilibrium position and then released. In the method described above, inside the plane bending vibration was produced with the steel bar's stiffness at its lowest. The velocity of the oscillation was measured using a laser vibrometer. For the corresponding accumulated resonance frequency, the damping of the bar was calculated based on the time dependence of the vibration velocity. Statistics were used to process the data. The oscillation's logarithmic decline in amplitude was discovered, and the damping was computed. LabView software was used to measure the results, while Matlab and DIAdem software was used to process the measured data. The above method of determining damping is applied to find out the damping rate of different materials and components used in different vehicles.
