Abstract

The use of electric drives and energy storages in vehicles presents fresh obstacles for system designers. Among these challenges is the need to address the susceptibility of battery packs to mechanical vibrations, requiring them to undergo vibration testing. In the event of a failure, like a battery fire, it becomes vital to swiftly detach the battery pack from the vibration platform. At the same time, it is essential to ensure that the mounting system maintains effective vibration transfer properties between the vibration exciter and the battery pack being tested. The paper presents assumptions and requirements for battery pack mountings subjected to vibration testing. The scope of functional and other requirements for such mounts was discussed. Examples and analysis of currently used general mounting techniques in vibration testing were presented. The article discusses the conditions that necessitate the use of mounts with fast assembly and disassembly capabilities, or only disassembly, and analyses the possibilities for adapting existing in other technic areas mounting techniques to achieve fast assembly/disassembly functionality. Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of mounts such as static mounting force, mounting mass, and requirements for additional accessories and dimensional parameters were analysed within the article. Mounts with the highest potential for developing fast assembly/disassembly mounts were selected in aspect of battery vibration testing. The article also presents existing concepts for such mount solutions. Areas of uncertainty related to this concept of specimen mounts in vibration testing were also discussed.
