Abstract
Short fiber reinforced polymers are often used in technical part if they are exposed to longterm loads. Therefore, the creep behavior of short fiber reinforced PBT and PP composites was determined and modelled by an elementary volume approach that takes into account both fiber orientation and content. This approach is able to predict the creep behavior of composites out of the matrix creep for a given load. Furthermore, the mathematical structure of the creep compliance relations allowed for the introduction of an adhesion factor which can be extracted from the short term creep compliance. For the design engineer this is of great value as the expected longterm mechanical behavior of parts can be estimated if only the matrix creep is known, thus, avoiding time consuming creep tests prior to materials selection.
