Abstract

The great importance in the area of serial elastomeric articles production has the task of the correct selection of new components of the rubber stock formula that can replace or reduce the concentration of more expensive conventional components of the rubber stock formula without lowering the performance characteristics below that required. In the previous works was shown that iron-ore concentrate (magnetite) is able to be as a vulcanization activator in absence of zinc oxide. In the course of this work, the effect of magnetite on the vulcanization kinetics of styrene-butadiene rubber SBR-1500 in the presence of a standard vulcanizing system and various vulcanization accelerators was investigated. It was shown that magnetite has a significant effect on the kinetics of sulfur vulcanization in the presence of thiazole series accelerators (2-MBT, 2-MBS). From the data obtained from the TGA/DSC can be seen that magnetite start to affect on the oxidation of vulcanizates based on styrene-butadiene rubber in the temperature range of 190–220°C, which greatly exceeds the operating temperature range.
