Materials with a porous structure have been known for centuries, but only recently has their role in engineering applications increased significantly. They are valued for their lightness, ability to absorb impact energy and for their filtration properties. Their use provides many benefits but also creates new problems in engineering calculations. Most often, to determine the properties of porous materials, substitute modules and coefficients are used, which in most cases are functions of porosity. The article presents the latest state of knowledge in the field of methods for testing and determining the properties of materials with porous structures.
