Abstract

The Peaucellier-Lipkin mechanism transforms the rotational and general motion of the members into a precise rectilinear motion of the point of interest. Successful application of the Peaucellier mechanism in practice (e.g. in precision mechanics or robotics) is only possible if very strict manufacturing tolerances and high assembly quality are maintained. Consistent manufacturing is required to maintain its desired function. The manufacturing tolerances must meet the requirement of the prescribed straightness of the working path of the device. In this paper, a kinematic and sensitivity analysis of the effect of the change in geometry of the selected members, which arise in the manufacturing and assembly process, on the straightness of the path of the working member point of interest is carried out.  Based on the results of the sensitivity analysis, the parameters that have a significant effect on the compliance with the shape of the prescribed trajectory, i.e., the straight line, are determined. The solution is implemented in MATLAB and ADAMS/View software environment.
