Abstract

The article presents the results of microscopic and macroscopic examinations of Ti-6Al-4V alloy and  316L stainless steel trabeculae made using DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) technology, which are structural elements of a knee endoprosthesis. The research covered trabeculae with various diameters from 0.1 to 1.1 mm and various cross-sectional shapes: round, square, elliptical, and rectangular with rounded edges. The studies included stages of determining the additive manufacturing quality by assessing their geometric accuracy, the possibility of creating desired non-standard shapes using 3D printing, and their various strength and microstructural analysis. The presented results will allow for the trabeculae structure optimization of a knee endoprosthesis manufactured using DMLS technology, conditionally reproducing the mechanical properties of real bone tissue trabeculae.
