Abstract
By a few years, there are design solutions of drive belts adapted to transmit electrical signals. Some manufacturers have already created a group of such belts. For example, the E-Belt designation can be found on the market. The introduction of signal wires into the belt structure or the use of a cord to transmit electricity requires an in-depth analysis of the belt structure. It is necessary to conduct research on the influence of these elements on the mechanical properties of the belt and to investigate the quality of signal flow. The result of such research is to propose construction guidelines and a model for solving the problem. This solution is very important in dynamically developing solutions included in industry 4.0. The authors present research results on the electrical conductivity and resistance of the load-bearing layer of basic types of timing belts. The conclusions from this research indicate the wide possibilities of using toothed belts, especially in mechatronic systems.
